Alternative Education Provision

Personalised Pathways for Every Learner 

At Clovelly House School, we recognise that every young person learns differently. Whilst many pupils thrive within our school environment, some may benefit from accessing alternative education provision as part of a personalised learning programme. 

Alternative provision enables pupils to develop skills, confidence and independence through practical, vocational, therapeutic and community-based learning opportunities that complement their educational programme. 

Our aim is to provide every pupil with an engaging, meaningful and ambitious curriculum that supports their individual strengths, interests and future aspirations. 

What is Alternative Provision? 

Alternative Provision (AP) is additional educational provision delivered outside of the school's usual curriculum or premises. 

It may be used to: 

• Support a pupil's individual needs. 
• Enhance engagement in learning. 
• Develop vocational and life skills. 
• Promote emotional wellbeing and confidence. 
• Prepare pupils for further education, employment and adulthood. 
• Provide opportunities for practical, hands-on learning experiences. 

Alternative provision is carefully planned and monitored and forms part of a pupil's wider educational package. 

Our Alternative Provision Opportunities 

Depending on individual needs, interests and outcomes, pupils may access opportunities such as: 

Curricular learning:  

• English 
• Maths 
• Science 
• PSHE (ASDAN) 

Vocational and community based learning  

• Our selection of ASDAN courses (please see the student option booklet).  

Therapeutic and Wellbeing Provision 

• Therapeutic interventions 
• Outdoor learning 
• Physical activity programmes 
• Emotional wellbeing support 
• Confidence and resilience-building activities 

Safeguarding and Quality Assurance 

The safety and wellbeing of our pupils is our highest priority. 

All alternative provision placements are carefully assessed before a pupil attends. The school undertakes appropriate checks to ensure providers have suitable: 

• Safeguarding arrangements 
• Health and safety procedures 
• Staff training and qualifications 
• Risk assessments 
• Insurance and compliance documentation 

For external alternative provisions pupils remain on the roll with Clovelly House School, and we maintain regular contact with providers, pupils and families to monitor attendance, progress and wellbeing.  

Monitoring Progress 

All placements are regularly reviewed to ensure they continue to meet the pupil's needs. 

The school monitors:

• Behaviour and wellbeing 
• Achievement of agreed outcomes 
• Progress towards EHCP targets where applicable 

Parents and carers are kept informed of progress and are involved in review meetings.
