Careers

At Clovelly House School, we ensure that all our young people have access and opportunities in experiencing life beyond school. Our aim is that every pupil, parent or carer has access to good quality careers information, future study options and labour market opportunities. Students will have access to a careers advisor trained to an appropriate level available whenever significant study or career choices are being made. 

Our staff offer information, advice and guidance that supports them in choices they make for their future career paths. Our discussions are based around potential career options, skills required and qualifications to succeed in their options. We also help our young learners with how to complete application forms and developing their interview techniques and then helping them prepare for life within a workplace.

Our careers are set out differently across the different key stages, at Key Stage 2 and 3 we focus on discovering future career paths within wider society that links to their personal interests. We try to expose our students to as many career paths as possible as well as experiencing other careers that they may not have previous considered. In Key Stage 4, they are exposed to looking deeper into their selected career paths and looking into the skills, attributes and qualifications required to enter their chosen careers.

We allow students to access careers in many ways within our curriculum. We use lessons built into the current curriculum to approach aspects of the careers programme we have at Clovelly House School. Subjects such as: Food technology where they can explore working under pressure and within a kitchen environment, PSHE where they can learn about positive relationships, sex and budgeting, also Art where students are able to express themselves but also enable them to think about art as a potential career. 

We also allow our students the opportunities to enter the wider community with visits to the leisure centre, local shops, restaurants and cinema’s this enables all our students to witness various people at work and build discussions around other careers they may wish to investigate further.

Our school measures and assesses the impact of the careers programme on pupils against the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks set by the government. We aim to hit all 8 Benchmarks throughout the year for all of our students.
