Transitions

Most of our parents/carers ask about how their child transition to and from our school. We are committed to ensuring that every learner has a smooth and structured transition at either end of their time at Clovelly House School.

Transitioning into Clovelly:

  • We always recommend visits before or during application stage via the local authority. This gives you an opportunity to see our school in action, ask questions you may have, meet our fabulous staff and have a sneak peek at the unique environment we have to offer our young learners.
  • Upon acceptance of a place with us, we will invite parents to a meeting – either face to face via teams or via a phone call. This is an opportunity for us to get things right for your child from the start. We want to discover their likes, dislikes, favourite lessons and worst lessons. We set out expectations, discuss the timetable structure and what would really work for the student.
  • We offer opportunities to gradually integrate into our school with sporadic visits which we build upon or jump straight into a full timetable environment. We understand that every child is different and can cope with certain changes at varying times.
  • Once your child has begun the transition in, the communication doesn’t stop there! We aim to communicate with parents/carers regularly to ensure we have everything right for your child. We discuss future opportunities and how we can increase their time with us or what we can offer going forwards.

Transitioning out of Clovelly:

  • We work with students to look into their future after Clovelly via careers and experiences within work.
  • We work closely to help students find and choose a college suitable for distances from home and the courses they wish to do.
  • We organise workplace experiences that give students an insight into their chosen career paths.
  • Sometimes College isn’t the correct route for our students to take. We support these students into the world of work. This includes, applying, preparing for interviews and how to be professional with in a job environment.
  • Some of our students, for many reasons, do not progress through to adulthood with us. We help with the transition from our school to the next by organising transition days, working closely with parents/carers and give the next provision all the information they require in a timely manner to help our leaving learners have the best possible start to life beyond Clovelly.
