Upon enrolment to our school, our pupils are encouraged to complete a baseline assessment (Cognitive, social, emotional, EQ and learning style) following on from this, our pupils are moved into one of our classes. Their placing into a classroom is based on their learning style, cognitive needs, academic levels and emotional development. Our pupils are then encouraged to develop and consolidate their key skills in core subjects and are also offered opportunities to extend their knowledge in other areas of the curriculum.
KS3 students are taught from a common curriculum which is underpinned by our therapeutic core values. At Clovelly house school we value the importance of life skills experiences. Therefore, we strive in creating opportunities for our pupils to participate and gain experience in a vocational environment. A clear vocational philosophy exists at Key Stage 4 as careers guidance is encouraged as part of a whole school approach in education.
To support our pupils with career choices and experiences, we organise and transport pupils to college open days and interviews. Further advice is also offered via an Independent Careers Advisers.
It is the aim of the school that all our pupils should leave our school with a suitable placement in the wider world of work, further education, employment of feeling equipped with life skills and acquired certificates to achieve as they become adults.
